Join Professor Ken Donaldson as he discusses what is known about the effects of vaping in experimental and human studies.

Join us for this bite sized lunch time talk exploring the history of medicine.

Vaping is a nicotine delivery system without the adverse effects of tobacco combustion, which are in part to blame for the harmful effects of cigarette smoking. The number of people vaping in the UK has risen from zero to about 7 million in the last 15 years, whilst the numbers of smokers have halved to about 7 million over much the same period. Much of this change rests on the perception that vaping is safer than smoking, so an examination of the relative dangers of vaping is warranted.

In this talk Professor Ken Donaldson will describe in brief what is known about the effects of vaping in experimental and human studies. Whilst only time will tell, current knowledge predicts that vaping is likely to cause some of the same adverse health effects of smoking if used over the long term and vigilance is needed if a public health disaster is to be avoided.

Talks will last approximately 30 mins and there will be tea and coffee available for ticket holders.
