Edinburgh City Of Medicine: 300 Years of Edinburgh Medical School
Founded in 1726, Edinburgh Medical School played a central role in shaping modern approaches to medical education and enhancing the intellectual reputation of the city. Discover the foundations already in place in the city, notably the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the rich shared history of the University and the College. The exhibition examines the people who drove this, the innovations made along with the shared challenges of who was excluded, the ethics involved in medical teaching collections and the challenges these present today in recognising the past. Explore objects that bring three centuries of medical history into focus, including a Shetland blood horn, Charles Darwin's class card and an cranial cast of William Burke. Much of the material on display comes from the University's Anatomical Museum and has rarely been on public display.
Edinburgh City of Medicine: 300 Years of Edinburgh Medical School will close Easter 2027.
