Dr Timothy Knilans, a Paediatric Cardiologist at Cincinnati Children's Hospital felt it would be beneficial to the surgical team if a 3D model could be made. Working with Materialise and the Mimics Innovation Suite software, CT scan data was used to create a 3D replica of Bradley’s heart, the tumour was printed into a hard-opaque material with the surrounding anatomical structures printed in a flexible transparent material. Having the model enabled the team to confidently proceed with an electrophysiology study and catheter ablation over a risky surgical resection of the tumor.
