Foreign Bodies

This month’s object looks at the fascinating foreign bodies found inside the human body. This collection of objects was removed from the bronchus, pharynx or oesophagus at various times between 1915 to 1922 by Dr. Arthur Logan Turner, Assistant Surgeon at the Ear and Throat Department at the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. It includes numerous coins, pins and studs and even a portion of a dental plate!

You can see more removed foreign bodies in the Upper Gallery of our History of Surgery Museum.
