New Temporary Exhibition Now Open

3 April 2026

Edinburgh: City of Medicine- 300 Years of Edinburgh Medical School

Uncover the city mapped by medicine in our new temporary exhibition in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Medical School is the oldest medical school in the English-speaking world. It grew at the time of the Scottish Enlightenment and was founded on radical new ways of thinking about how medicine could be taught. Revolutionary new approaches to the teaching and study of the human body that emerged at Edinburgh Medical School helped change our world, but this remarkable progress was not without cost.

Edinburgh: City of Medicine- 300 Years of Edinburgh Medical School will close Easter 2027.
