Summer Events Launch

19 June 2025
We have a couple of in person talks coming up over the summer months. Our Senior Research Fellow Professor Ken Donaldson will discuss the human microbiome. We are also delighted to welcome Jackie Sutherland for a talk about her father Captain Jack Ennis -a pathologist in the Indian Medical Service who was interned in Singapore from 1942-1945.  Jackie will draw on her late father’s diaries and mementos to illustrate aspects of his life in internment- including his continued work as a pathologist.

For those of you unable to make it to the museum, we also have a couple of online events lined up! In July we will be joined by Professor Claire Brock for our latest Dissecting the Author online event. Professor Brock will be discussing her book 'British Women Surgeons and their Patients, 1860-1918'. In September we will host 'Painting Legacies' in partnership with The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Discover how art and medicine come together in this online panel exploring portraiture, gender and representation.

In July, we will be joined by Artist Hannah Kelly for a Playful Portraits kids workshop.

Our Blood and Guts walking tours will continue with additional tours running on Fridays throughout the summer. We are delighted to be participating in the Edinburgh Deaf Festival with a BSL interpreted Blood and Guts walking tour in August.

Finally, both our Curator and Human Remains Conservator will be visiting the McDonald Road Library on the 11th of August to deliver two talks on the history of women in surgery. Tickets for this will shortly be available from the McDonald Road Library's Eventbrite page.
