New temporary exhibition: Examining the eye: medicine's oldest specialty now open

18 March 2024
Our new temproary exhibition "Examining the Eye: Medicine's Oldest Specialty" will open on the 29th of March.

Explore our latest exhibition which examines the history of medicine’s oldest specialty, ophthalmology. The study and treatment of eye diseases can be traced back to ancient Egypt and has a fascinating journey to the specialism we recognise today. The exhibition explores the complex workings of the human eye, the development of our understanding of eye disease and discoveries of new treatments.

Ommetaphobia is the fear of eyes (something we empathise with) This exhibition contains no physical anatomy of the eye or any graphic eye images!

Exhibition Idea 1 (2)

The museum will be open from 10am-5pm over Easter weekend.

Our previous temporary exhibition: In Safe Hands: The Battle for Midwifery is now closed. However, you can view a digital version of the exhibition here.
