Our New Galleries Receive Funding!

13 January 2020
We are delighted to announce we have been awarded £60,000 from Museum Galleries Scotland's museum development fund. The funding will support the development of our new Body Voyager Galleries, which are set to open later this year.

The new galleries are the second phase of the museum redevelopment, with phase one being completed in 2015 when the Museums underwent a £4.4 million Heritage Lottery funded revamp.

Currently the Museums collections chart the development of anatomical medical knowledge between the 16th and 19th centuries and deal with subjects such as the history of surgery, techniques and technology, surgical specialty, anatomy and a host of other themed subjects.

Concept Art

Body Voyager, and will explore the rise in computerised and robotic technology in medicine. The new space will incorporate a high level of interactive computer technology, working surgical instruments, human specimens and AV presentations to create an immersive experience.

Body Voyager will be an immersive experience and will take visitors on a journey through the human body exploring the way in which modern technology is changing the course of modern surgery and patient care. Visitors will be asked to think more about the advancement of surgery and how they would feel as a patient in these circumstances.
