Dissecting The Author - EVENTBRITE

From Death-Watchers to Victorian Mourning: A People’s History of Mortality

Join us for a thought-provoking Zoom talk exploring how the rituals and realities of dying, death, and disposal have shaped, and been shaped by, society throughout history.

Cat Irving, Human Remains Conservator at Surgeons’ Hall Museums, will be joined by author, historian, and bereavement counsellor Molly Conisbee.

Molly will discuss the research behind her groundbreaking new book No Ordinary Deaths: A People’s History of Mortality — a work that shifts the focus from the dramatic deaths of monarchs and political figures to the everyday experiences of ordinary people.

Together, they’ll explore how people across time have faced death and mourned their loved ones, and how these customs reflect the values and beliefs of their time.

It is not necessary to have read to No Ordinary Deaths: A People's History of Mortality to join this event but if you would like to it can be found here.
