Painted People

Join Surgeons Hall Museum as we explore how surgery, and the history of medicine has inspired authors and their work.

In this online event Surgeons Hall Museums Human Remains Conservator Cat Irving will be joined by Matt Lodder author of Painted People: Humanity in 21 Tattoos.

In Painted People, Dr Matt Lodder, one of the world’s foremost experts on tattooing, tells the stories of people like Arnaq, who was tattooed in keeping with her cultural and religious traditions in sixteenth-century Canada, and Horace Ridler, who was tattooed as a means to make money in 1930s London.

Matt will discuss the wider history of tattooing as well as the history and traditions behind some of the tattoos within the museums care.

It is not necessary to have read Painted People by Matt Lodder to join this event but if you would like to purchase a copy of the book it can be found here

You will receive the details on how to access this Zoom event upon booking. This is a live event and will not be recorded. If you have any problems, please email museum@rcsed.ac.uk
