Join Surgeons Hall Museums and Human Remains Conservator Cat Irving for this one hour online talk exploring history of preparations of blood vessels and the lymphatic system for the teaching of anatomy.
Some of the most beguiling preparations to be seen in Surgeons’ Hall are those where the tiny vessels have been highlighted to reveal their anatomy. Shining silver with mercury, bold in red or blue wax, or picked out delicately in colored dye, this has been a way to show the structures not easily seen in dissection.
Cat Irving will look discuss the way these preparations were made and what they have taught us about our blood vessels and the lymphatic system - and how they have led to feuds between anatomists.
