Rare Books 23 (1)

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s Library and Archive are delighted to announce that we will once again be participating in the “Rare Books Edinburgh 2023” . The College Library, which has its origins in the seventeenth century, has accumulated a world-renowned collection of significant surgical, medical and historical texts from around the globe, and we hope you will join us for an exclusive look at some of these items.

We will be exhibiting some of the oldest items in our collection, including a 1460 “Book of Hours”, and a superb copy of “The Nuremberg Chronicle” from 1493, as well as unique medical texts such as Henry Gray’s handwritten annotations on the first edition proof of “Gray’s Anatomy”. Ticket holders will be able to view these treasures and other rare items held by the college library.
