Potted Path Complete Collection

Potted Pathology
is a 6 part series of pre-recorded talks by Surgeons Hall Museums Senior Research Fellow Professor Ken Donaldson. It focuses on the fundamental processes and prominent areas of disease development in an interesting and accessible way. Each talk is approximately 1 hour.

The Collection

Part 1: Inflammation

Potted Pathology Part 1 will focus on Inflammation.  Inflammation is a vital process that defends against injury to the body. However, inappropriately activated the inflammatory response underlies many diseases such as arthritis and asthma.

Part 2: Infection

Potted Pathology Part 2 will focus on infection. We exist in a sea of microbes in our environment and even within our own bodies, yet we mostly do not suffer from infection. How do we defend ourselves against microbes and how do some of them evade the defences, causing us to succumb to infection?

Part 3: Cancer

Potted Pathology Cancer will focus on Cancer development. In cancer, how does the uncontrolled growth of cells in the body lead to tumour formation, which can then spread through the body?

Part 4: Cardio Vascular Disease

Potted Pathology Cardiovascular Disease, will describe the main diseases of the cardiovascular system, the major causes of death in the modern world with their underlying causes and treatments. The lecture will embrace atherosclerosis, heart-attack and stroke, aneurysm, dysrhythmia and valve disease.

Part 5: The Brain and Neurological Disease

The brain and neurological disease, will describe the main diseases of the brain which contribute hugely to the burden of chronic disease in the modern world. The topics covered in this lecture include the brain and its structure, Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and motor neuron disease.

Part 6: Allergies & Pathologies of the Immune System
