Surgeons’ Hall Museums are delighted to welcome leading transplant Surgeon Professor Lorna Marson MD, FRCS, FRCP to join us in celebration of International Women’s Day 2020.

Historically, it was more difficult for women to pursue a career in surgery than it was for men, but is this still the case? Professor Marson will reflect on the history of women in surgery while sharing stories from her experience as a surgeon as well as discussing gender roles within the current field.

Professor Marson is a Consultant Renal and Pancreas Transplant Surgeon leading the renal transplant programme in Edinburgh. She has a broad experience with recipient issues in live donor transplant, and undertakes clinically relevant research in renal transplantation. She has a major interest in surgical training and has taken on senior roles within surgical training in NHS Education for Scotland. She was awarded the Hunter-Doig medal from RCS Ed, an award for women who have made a significant contribution to surgery in 2010. She was awarded a Personal Chair in Transplant surgery in August 2018, having worked as a Senior Lecturer (2004-15) and Reader (2015-18) at the University of Edinburgh.
