Summer Holidays at Surgeons' Hall Museums

With the school holidays just round the corner, we have a fantastic line up of events to keep the kids entertained.


Copy Of Surgeons Hall Book Launch 2
For ages 7+

Come and find out about some of the key ideas of comparative anatomy! Are you really related to an Ape? Explore the similarities and differences between a chimpanzee and a human. In this workshop you will cut and colour a pop-up comparative anatomy model of a chimpanzee and human to take home with you!

In celebration of our new temporary exhibition A Design For Life join Surgeons' Hall Museums and artist Alison Grubb to take a closer look at animal anatomy!
Find out how different animals have adapted to their environment and how their anatomy varies to suit their behaviour, diet and movement. In this workshop you will create and sew a felt anatomical model of either a penguin, armadillo or chimpanzee that you can take home with you.
Alison Grubb is a recent graduate of Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen. She specialises in ceramics and has a history of working with children, facilitating a range of multi-disciplinary workshops.


Skeleton Investigators (5)

23rd and 24th of July- 1pm-4pm 
For ages 7+
Included in museum admission
Do you know what an owl has for its dinner? Find out in these sessions!
Investigate the skeleton remains removed from owl pellets. Discover what animal the bones belong to and then reconstruct the skeleton.



DNA Fun (7)

30th and 31st of July- 1pm-4pm
For ages 7+
Included in museum admssion
Can you break the genetic code? Come along to one of our drop-in sessions and learn all about DNA. We'll have  ahost of fun activities to help you learn what DNA is, including the chance to make your own DNA sequence bracelet to take home with you.

Animal Handling with Cool Creatures
6th and 7th August- 10.30am, 11.30am and 12.30pm
For ages 7+
£6-£10.30

To celebrate our new exhibition A Design for Life this is your chance to meet some amazing animals up close and see for yourself the incredible variety found in the animal kingdom. What makes a mammal a mammal? Does a snake have a backbone? Do insects have skeletons? Come along and find out for yourself with close encounters of the furry and scaly kind, and others in between.
Strictly Age 7+
All aged under 16 years must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Tickets include Museum access from 10am-5pm on the day of your event.
