Surgeons' Hall Museum Outreach Programme

4 March 2014

Outreach March 2014– April 2015

From March 2014, we will be working in partnership with Edinburgh University to tour two exhibitions which will come together as ‘Words and Deeds, Weapons and Wounding’. The University of Edinburgh’s exhibition ‘Words and Deeds: Women, Warfare and Caregiving’ explores the often neglected and understated story of women in warfare and was hosted at Surgeons’ Hall Museum during 2013. Subsequently, a new exhibition has been developed by Surgeons’ Hall Museum to be displayed in conjunction with the original exhibition.  ‘Weapons and Wounding’ will highlight the severity of injuries women in warfare would have dealt with, exploring the progression of weaponry and the ever increasing need for new medical and surgical techniques to cope with wounding in warfare.

The exhibition and associated activities are free of charge. Selected activities will be taking place at the venues listed below. Please contact the venue for more information and booking
