As part of Rare Books Edinburgh 2020, join RCSEd Library and Archive for a private viewing of some of the rarest books and manuscripts in their collections and see how they are maintained and repaired.

The College Library, which has its origins in the seventeenth century, has accumulated a world-renowned collection of significant surgical, medical and historical texts from around the globe, and we hope you will join us for an exclusive look at some of these items.

We will be exhibiting some of the oldest items in our collection, including a Book of Hours from c.1460; a 1493 Nuremburg Chronicle; and of course surgical and anatomical works from throughout our history.

We will also be joined by Downie Alison Downie Bookbinders who will be leading a demonstration on paper and leather restoration and discussing how they work to help maintain rare book collections.
