Impressions of Life in a WW1 Camp- Printmaking Workshop

THIS EVENT IS NOW SOLD OUT

Join artist Susie Wilson for an afternoon of printmaking inspired by our new temporary exhibition 'Field Notes: Reflections on Camp Life at the Scottish Women's Hospitals'.

The new exhibition was created by artists Susie Wilson and Joan Smith and is inspired by the Scottish Women's Hospital archives held here at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. The exhibition places focus on lantern slides of camp life in WW1 which also provides the inspiration for this workshop.

This one day workshop will look at images of the slides from the archives and use them as the inspiration to make dry point prints. In dry point, the plate is drawn on directly to create a burr which gives a soft, velvety line. Over the day several plates will be made which can be printed in layers conveying the ghostly, ambiguous feeling of the lantern slides themselves.
