Treasures Of Library

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s Library and Archive are delighted to announce that we will once again be participating in the “Rare Books Edinburgh 2018” . The College Library, which has its origins in the seventeenth century, has accumulated a world-renowned collection of significant surgical, medical and historical texts from around the globe, and we hope you will join us for an exclusive look at some of these items.

We will be exhibiting some of the oldest items in our collection, including a 1460 “Book of Hours”, and a superb copy of “The Nuremberg Chronicle” from 1493, as well as unique medical texts such as Henry Gray’s handwritten annotations on the first edition proof of “Gray’s Anatomy”. Ticket holders will be able to view these treasures and other rare items held by the college library.

Tickets will include Surgeons' Hall Museums access and they will be valid from 10am-5pm on the date of your Library visit.

Ticket holders must check in at Surgeons’ Hall Museums reception desk on Level 3. Here you will join the group for your Library visit.
