Making Sense in the Pathology Museum - Surgeons' Hall Museums in the 19th Century

At the heart of the Surgeon’s Hall Museums is a huge collection of pathological specimens.  These were mostly acquired over the course of the nineteenth century.  But what for?  And why then?  By exploring the revolutionary impact of pathological anatomy on nineteenth-century medicine, Professor Steve Sturdy, University of Edinburgh, will explain the role of pathology museums in training not just the minds but also the senses of the young doctors who studied there.
