Burke and Hare: Fact and Fiction

Journalist and author Peter Ranscombe will discuss his debut novel, a historical thriller called Hare, which takes the story of Burke and Hare - Scotland's most notorious murderers - and asks what happened next to Hare after Burke was hanged for their crimes. Peter's story places Hare in Boston during the early years of the American Civil War, when a series of murders places him under suspicion once more. Peter dipped into the archives of The Scotsman newspaper during his research for the book and will discuss where the facts about Burke and Hare end and where the fiction begins.
