About Art and Anatomy Edinburgh

Art and Anatomy Edinburgh was founded in November 2014 by Meg Anderson, a core surgical trainee, and Nichola Robertson, an anatomy teaching fellow. They joined forces with freelance artist and tattooist Kimmie Dunlop and put together an innovative anatomy teaching programme. They have run sessions teaching surgical anatomy to medical students in Edinburgh over the last year, with fantastic feedback from students. Their work has been presented at surgical and medical education conferences across the UK, and they have run public engagement events with the famous Edinburgh artist George Donald, and with Danny Quirk, from the USA. Art and Anatomy Edinburgh was recently awarded the Principal’s Teaching Award Scheme Grant and will continue to provide innovative education to medical students and the public in Edinburgh – with a view to expanding their methods to other UK universities. Art and Anatomy Edinburgh is a not-for-profit organization, which relies on volunteers to teach, model and paint; Meg and Nichola run the project in addition to training full time as junior surgeons.
