"Morbid Curiosities" with Iain Macintyre

Join Iain Macintyre  for a look inside Surgeons’ Hall Museums, its past, present and future. Since its foundation in 1697, visitors to Surgeons’ Hall Museum have ranged from those wishing to learn about the human body or the history of surgery to those simply curious about the morbid displays. After a multi-million pound upgrading the museum reopens in September 2015.

Iain Macintyre graduated in medicine from Edinburgh University, worked as a surgeon in Edinburgh and, until his retiral in 2004, was surgeon to the Queen in Scotland. He was Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh during its 500th anniversary celebration. Iain is involved in teaching history of medicine and his books include Surgeons’ Lives and Scottish Medicine - an Illustrated History. He is President-elect of the British Society for the History of Medicine.

Please note this talk is at Edinburgh's City Chambers and is run by Edinburgh Festival Voluntary Guides Association. Talks start 7.30pm and last for 1 hour.
