Until the middle of the 19th century women were not allowed to study medicine. This is the story of three Edinburgh surgeons who refused to accept rejection. Over the course of a century, they changed the accepted opinion of a woman’s traditional role and paved the way for women to join the medical profession on equal terms with their male colleagues.
