<p>Join us for this bite sized lunch time talk exploring the history of medicine.</p>
<p>Artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Peter Paul Rubens studied human anatomy closely in order to represent the body with greater realism and expressive power. Their investigations into muscles, movement, and the physical limits of the human body shaped how artists approached one of the most powerful subjects in Christian art: Christ on the cross.</p>
<p>In this talk, human remains conservator Cat Irving explores how anatomical knowledge has influenced artistic attempts to understand and depict the physical realities of crucifixion.</p>
<p>Talks will last approximately 30 mins and there will be tea and coffee available for ticket holders.</p>

<p>Join us for this bite sized lunch time talk exploring the history of medicine.</p>
<p>This talk celebrates our new temporary exhibition, <em>Edinburgh City of Medicine</em>, created in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh.</p>
<p>Andrew Brown, Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Biomedicine, Self and Society, explores his personal connection to the Polish School of Medicine. The school was established at the University of Edinburgh in 1941 during the Second World War to support Polish civilians and medical students who had been displaced by the war.</p>
<p>Talks will last approximately 30 mins and there will be tea and coffee available for ticket holders.</p>

<p><span>This event is for young people aged 12–18yrs, and each attendee must be accompanied by an adult.</span> Please make sure to include at least <span>one adult ticket</span> when booking.<br />For <span>each teen ticket</span>, you may book <span>a maximum of two accompanying adult tickets</span>.<br />This limit helps ensure we can offer as many places as possible to young people aged 12–18yrs.</p>

<p>Our sensory friendly early openings provide an opportunity for those who need a quieter environment to enjoy our museum without the hustle and bustle of the general public.</p>

<p>Taking place on Saturday 20 June, the Museum will open at 9am before our official opening at 10am, and wherever possible, we have adjusted operations and/or lowered volume levels on exhibits. There will be old surgical equipment available to handle and a quiet room for those needing to take a break.</p>

<p><strong><strong>Entry for the Quiet Morning will be open between 9am and 9.15am for participants. Booking is required as spaces are limited.</strong></strong></p>

<p><em><strong><strong>The Museum contains human remains that some may find upsetting. All ages welcome however, recommended age 10+. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.</strong></strong></em></p>
